My Second Feral Kitten Rescue
There is a colony of stray and feral cats living in our neighborhood. About six weeks ago, Jared and I rescued three feral kittens from our yard. We took them in, because we wanted to socialize them, spay/neuter them and adopt them out to permanent homes. All of this is in an attempt to minimize the number of unwanted kittens in this world. Every day, shelters put perfectly healthy and friendly...

Some days go like this
Unbeknown to me, the kitten escapes her confines (the office) and scurries into the living room. The dog, barking and growling runs after her. I have to follow him, to make sure he doesn’t hurt her and/or mark something. Now the kitten is inaccessible in some tiny crevice.
The dog and I return to the other room to get some peace. A few minutes later, there’s a loud crash. I’d...

Outsmarting the Puppytron
At first, Rhys would sit everywhere but the crate: his former bed, an empty mesh bag, the kitten’s scratching pad. All of these seemed more attractive than his warm and cozy crate. I would turn around and see him sitting on a sock in the middle of the empty room, and I would think, “Really? This is more comfortable than your big, plush bed?” So, thank you Rhys for giving us yet...

I just subscribed as a gift to myself. I’ve always been pleased with their magazine and I think having a whole website full of information is simply awesome.

How to search Google like a pro
Sometimes, instead of searching the Internet carefully, I talk to it instead. I think this may be because I spend a lot of time alone. For instance, when I discovered Rhys had marked our couch as his very own, I searched Google with
How do I get dog pee out of my couch?
Then, later, when I got frustrated at trying to clean my couch I searched Google with
My couch is covered in piss!
Which...

Rhys meets crate; enjoys included Kong
Things are moving quickly so far. Rhys has his very own sanctuary in our home. Wire crate, soft bedding, water bowl, multiple toys, and he’s spending quite a bit of time there on his own.
He definitely had incentive: we stuffed his Kong with treats and tossed it in there. I don’t think he looked back until he got the Kong stuck to his lower jaw. Poor guy. I mentioned that they are...

Introducing the real Rhys "Puppytron" Jenkins
I love Rhys “Puppytron” Jenkins very much. That’s why I’m going to devote some space to him here. He’s an 18-month-old mixed breed: chihuahua and miniature pinscher. As such, he weighs less than six pounds, but he has bark and personality enough to take on the big dogs. Literally.
I’ll confess to being one of those dog owners that had no idea what they were...

Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Reviews →
This website is an invaluable tool in evaluating the safety of what we use on our skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body and is sensitive to and absorbs whatever we put on. I check this database whenever I’m curious about a new product.

I have a/the "common" cold
Plans to see a friend had to be scrapped today, because I’m holed up in bed with two boxes of tissues, a glass of water and my laptop. My head is so congested it feels as if it may explode any second. This started as an innocent sniffle less than 24 hours ago, and now it’s completely immune to the neti pot and Breathe Right strips. Big, steaming bowls of pozole verde do seem to help...

Mattress Inspector!
In March, Jared and I bought a new mattress. It was meant to be our savior from bad nights of sleep. Our very choosy selves spent a very long day visiting many mattress stores until we hit the big ole Sleep Train. Where we spent many dollars on the Vera Wang by Serta Specialty Talalay Latex Foam Bed. It sounds fancy, because it kinda is. We bought it because it’s all-natural latex which...

It's all gravy
I just ate a bowl of leftover stuffing and gravy. I do not mess around.
Also of note: I made a half gallon of gravy on Thanksgiving. Jared was very upset and confused. “WHY do you need so much gravy?” he asked. I responded that I don’t know how to make LESS gravy.
Well now, we are almost out of gravy and it looks like I’ll need to make more for the turkey pot pies...
